Women's lacrosse shafts are typically composed of composite, aluminum, titanium, scandium or alloys. The typical diameter is about seven-eighths of an inch to one inch, and they are about 35.5 to 43.25 inches in length (goalie sticks are typically longer).
Unlike those used in men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse heads must be strung in a standard way. By NCAA rules, most women's lacrosse heads must be 7 to 9 inches wide with a traditional string configuration. Nylon mesh stringing is only permitted for goalkeepers.
Defensive players usually want a stiffer head to stand up to checking, while attackers and midfielders need a lightweight head for switching hand and quick shooting. A narrower throat helps with ball control.
