Learn More About Hybrid Bikes

Hybrid Bikes Deliver Versatility on the Ride

Make your way around town or down light trails. A hybrid bike is the best of both worlds: Rugged like a mountain bike, but with a lightweight frame that makes city cruising a breeze.

That versatility makes the hybrid bike a great choice for your ride. Run errands around town or trek along a bike path with the right blend of comfort and function on your hybrid bike.

Hybrids, also known as dual-sport bikes, are available in lightweight frames and sizes for kids, including bikes with fun, vibrant designs that girls and boys will love. Women's bikes are designed for a lighter feel for long, comfortable rides.

Enjoy the ride with hybrid bikes from industry-leading brands like Nishiki®, Diamondback® and SE Bikes®.

Hybrid bikes offer multiple speeds and gears for riders who plan to bike in different terrains and environments. With a lighter frame than a traditional mountain bike, hybrids are engineered to provide the cyclist an upright seating position and flat, straight handlebars for control over the road.

For more aggressive riding, look for performance hybrids, designed with a more rigid front fork and a thinner frame for enhanced speed. Consider the suspension mechanism in your bicycle, which impacts your comfort and control on the ride. Front suspension is ideal for cyclists who occasionally bike on both packed trails and paved roads.

Aluminum is the most commonly used material in bikes, and provides a light, agile feel. Steel-frame bikes are highly durable and able to withstand the rigors of your ride. Select from rim brakes, which employ a soft rubber brake pad, or hard metallic disc brake pads.

When selecting the right bike, keep in mind the difference between hybrid and comfort bicycles: Comfort bikes use the 26-inch wheel standard of mountain bikes, while hybrids typically use a road bike's 700c tire standard, which rolls easier on pavement.

Gearing in hybrids is often higher and does not include low gears often found in mountain bikes. Most hybrids come with basic pedals, but higher performance bikes are available with toe clips.
